Valentine’s Day Cake Balls Recipe

Ingredients:

16.5 ounce package cake mix, your choice of flavor

6 ounce fat-free plain Greek yogurt

48 ounce of colored candy melts, Wilton brand

2 big egg whites

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup of water

baking spray

mini cupcake liners

sprinkles

Put batter into pastry bag and cut the tip off. Pipe it into the cake pop pan, then bake for approximately 18 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes and refrigerate for around 45 minutes- this is the secret to having the chocolate stick nicely to the cake pops. Melt the white Wilton brand chocolates according to directions, and be careful to not overdo it in the microwave. Using a bamboo stick, insert the tip into the melted chocolate, then stick it in the cake ball to hold it in place. Dip all the cake balls in the chocolate and place into a sheet of wax paper. When the chocolate settles and hardens, place them onto the cupcake liners. Drizzle with heart-shaped or valentine themed sprinkles.

Yay! I love the idea of cake pops for Valentines Day. In your first example, how do you get the sprinkles to stick to the cake pops one the chocolate hardens? I always have problems with not getting my decorations on fast enough and then they fall off and then I’m not happy. And cake pops should make me happy!

      Hi Rayna,

I get this question quite often as I asked myself when first starting out making these wonderful treats. The sprinkles must be added before the chocolate or melts harden.

      Happy Popping,

The vanilla frosting sounds yummy. I definitely prefer real frosting to what comes in cans. You can just add a couple of drops of red food coloring to half and you end up with both white and red frosting – perfect for Valentines Day!
